Absolutely and Forever
A prep day….I spent most of the day indoors apart from one brief foray to the shops for last minute things and didn’t miss being out…started with a heavy haar and just got wetter and more dreich!
We chopped and prepped most of the morning and after a sandwich lunch S went down to meet @Winsford at the King’s Gallery to see an exhibition whilst I did a quick tidy up, then when they got back we chatted over cups of tea until the rest of book group arrived.
Lively evening, with multiples simultaneous conversations going on, including about the book! It was Rose Tremain’s Absolutely and Forever which we all agreed was well written but most of us found depressing and found the main character infuriatingly passive (even given the stifling period and circumstances she grew up in).
Vietnamese lettuce rolls to start, the chicken rendang, rice and stir fried greens, then Burnt Basque cheesecake with roasted peaches in Madeira for dinner…and for once I seemed to get the quantities about right!
All except E were here and we just fitted round the table…lovely to be together again.
