Station To Station

Down to Clatterbridge to see my sister today. Took the scenic route to the hospital, via Willaston, and decided to stop at Wirral Country Park to stretch our legs. There is a trail that follows the old Hooton to West Kirby line, and a group of volunteers have restored the Hadlow Road station to how it was in its heyday. The line was laid in 1866 to transport coal from Neston and fish from Parkgate, but decreasing usage meant that passenger services ended in 1956 and freight services ended in 1962. In 1968, Cheshire County Council purchased the line and created Britain’s first Country Park.
We only had time for a brief look around today, but I would like to come back at some point and explore further.
You could tell that schools had gone back as there was a lot less traffic on the M6. Trouble free journey both ways, but still quite tiring. We got back just in time to grab something to eat before I headed out to Blackadder rehearsal. I’ll not be late out of bed tonight…
