Theo

And this time I asked first - I got to the Japanese Cultural Center's photo show that closes today on the Minidoka Camp in Idaho, one of the camps that the 12,000 plus Japanese citizens were exported to after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. There is so much history here and I was struck how a camera and photography can have you poke into areas of life that you might otherwise notice but not take the time to look at, and even, OMG, converse.

The history of Japanese in Seattle is long, won't summarize here but people endure so much prejudice to move across the seas or border of their homeland - and again we all know this, but sometimes it is just more deeply registered. Today is one of those days for me.

The photos were taken in 2012 by a Japanese Mexican man who had heard stories from his grandparents, so he went and shot the camps, what is left, and shot Japanese veterans, their wives and widows. They are all black and white and very striking.

I want a project that I can sink into. In fact when Theo asked why the photo of him I said, well I am kind of scratching around for a project and right now getting photos and a record of the people I talk to is a start. I chose not to mention I would post him on this site. That may be slippery of me -----He is a student in Political Science at Western Washington up in Bellingham - I told him it is a good major, it was mine, that we do all kinds of things after, and he said for him it was about critical thinking. Smart fellow!

And I am going to try to load one of fallen apples that I took earlier and just love into blipfolio. Here

Finally - stars galore for me yesterday - kind of a reward for being a bit braver! Thanks you all.
