Ernest Wiesner 1890-1971

EW was a prolific and revered architect in Brno before 1939, when he escaped to the UK and ultimately settled in Liverpool. History deprived him of the career and recognition he might have otherwise expected but here at Vila Stiassni, one of the finest examples of 1920s architecture, a wonderful bonze by Jiří Plieštik was unveiled, with a handful of important international representatives at the ceremony. Kateřina Konečná who is the custodian of the villa here, has every right to be pleased with herself. She had been busy for months preparing for the day.
