Tea

After dining on a delicious lobster roll last night, and walking around Fenway Park to digest it, I went to sleep around 10:00, and slept well, getting up at about 05:00. I worked until breakfast began at 07:00, and then worked for a couple more hours.

Leaving my case at the guest house, I walked just over 10km across Boston, to the fort at Castle Island. It was remarkably pleasant, since Boston has many older buildings, parks and boardwalks next to the sea.

Half way, I stopped at the Boston Tea Party museum, and went on a pretty good multimedia tour, with three people playing roles in costume. There was also plenty of audience participation, including throwing tea chests into the water (see extra). Of course I took my turn - and then hauled it back in!

At Castle Island I'd hoped to take the Turf zone inside the old fort, but it was closed for maintenance. No matter, I had lunch of fried king prawns and chips. Unfortunately they'd run out of scallops to fry.

I wondered about cycling back on a rental bike, but setting up an account required an SMS to be sent to my phone, and I'm on an e-sim. So I took the bus back.

After collecting my case, I walked across the Charles River bridge to the area of Boston that houses MIT. I think that there is a public route through it, but didn't fancy exploring the campus whilst pulling a case, so I walked round it. Wearing a sweaty football shirt and dusty trousers, I checked into the Boston Marriott Cambridge - which offers the sort of charmless luxury that I detest. My room is on the 11th floor, so has a decent view, but I'd have rather spent the rest of the week at the Oasis Guest House.
