2024 Saturday — Bath time for Mitzi
This little pup, actually an old lady, was so dirty. There’s a reason she hasn’t been bathed.
Mitzi had surgery on July 1. Our Morro Bay veterinarian anesthetized her in order to remove some sizable warts and growths. We were told years ago that canine breeds that do not shed can have a tendency to grow warts. Mitzi was born with that tendency. She has been the cutest, prettiest, most gorgeous dog we have ever called our own. I will add that she has also been the most sassy, cantankerous, and spunky pup. To say she has a mind of her own is a conservative definition.
She has been on liver and on trachea medication for several years. The. vet reported in July that her liver disease has decreased and we almost never hear her choking from a “shrinking” trachea. That’s all wonderful news. She came through the July surgery successfully; (we were nervous about having her under anesthesia because she is so old.) Once we stopped administering the narcotics for pain she became her self again. What a relief.
Bathing her has never been my desire; that’s why God gave us groomers. But because of her warts, we no longer take her to a groomer. Brushing her fur disturbs all of the warts. Groomers have an affinity for brushing. Scissors are better than brushes. I just trim off any matted fur. Her face is my biggest concern. I will not use the scissors near her eyes and she resists having the fur around her mouth or chin trimmed so therefore her sweet little face is a mess. Finding a groomer who will do just the face is an immediate need.
Mitzi’s gorgeous good looks have faded as she has aged. Her fur is thin and not at all fluffy like it once was. Her beauty has faded, but her personality has not. (I can relate; wrinkles and thinning hair — egads!). So that’s our Mitzi story for today.
