Old times
East Kilbride was designated a New Town in 1948, and the town was built around the old village. We came here in 1972, just before C was born. Most of the people here were Glasgow people who came for the work in Rolls Royce, Motorola, etc. It was a town made up of young families, and had lots of facilities and a good place to bring up families.
Times have changed, and particularly since Covid, the town centre is pretty dismal now with a lot of empty shops, and lots of the facilities that we took for granted have gone.
There is an exhibition of photographs of the town in the town centre and I passed it today on my way to the library. It was interesting, and thought it would make a good blip, possibly only of interest to myself though!
