Bronze doors, Saint Andrews house
I’m making it my mission to find every location in the “secret Edinburgh an unusual guide” a great wee book I would thoroughly recommend. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Secret-Edinburgh-Unusual-Guide-Guides/dp/2361953633
These great Bronze doors are visible when the government building is closed but a kind security guard closed them for me so I could take a picture.
Another member of the staff told me that the government building is on the site of the old prison an old door from Carlton Hill can be seen upstairs at the Beehive Inn, Grassmarket apparently.
This article suggests 10 prisoners are buried below the car park: https://www.gov.scot/publications/70-years-of-st-andrews-house/pages/calton-jail/ Like every city town and village across the country. Edinburgh has many layered stories.
