An evening at the Beeb
A few weeks ago, I applied to attend several News Quiz recordings but didn’t win the ballots. However, yesterday evening a text message informed me that I’d received last-minute tickets. Yes, please!
We combined our central London trip with a visit to Stanford’s the travel bookshop to plan our trip to France. A walking book and a map later, we headed north of Oxford Circus to join the queue snaking around Broadcasting House. After half an hour, the queue began to move and we were quickly being stickered and beeped through security. The holding space was a cafe overlooking the newsroom, but the best seats were snaffled so I didn’t snap a picture of that. Our Stanford’s purchases kept us occupied while the rest of the ticket holders were checked, then all into the Radio Theatre.
The recording was suitably funny. Neil Delamere in particular was very quick and clever with words. Mark Steel is always great, as is Lucy Porter. Marie le Conte had a little trouble getting a word in but Andy Zaltzman gave her the space to speak. There were quite a few things (banter between the speakers) that I doubt will make the edit - that’s why seeing the recording can be so much funnier than listening to it on the radio. It’s on Friday at 6.30 - maybe my laughs will make the cut.
