Picking up Mummy
A late night pick up at Brize Norton to welcome Julia back to the UK and take her to her lovely twins.
Unfortunately, Bella is quite ill. Came home from school with a sore throat which then progressed to a raging fever. She is very hot to the touch, everywhere not just her face. Hetty had a sore throat but seemed to get over it, hopefully it won't return in the morning.
The journey to Brize was a bit fraught. I left home at 21:45, aiming to be at Brize for 22:30.
First hitch was getting to the top of Crickley Hill, at the Air Balloon roundabout, only to find the road to Oxford was closed overnight due to the A417 Missing Link work. A great animated video shows what is being done, a 3 year project to alleviate the problems faced by drivers going from the M5/Gloucester to Swindon and the M4 (and all points in between).
So I had to turn around, go back down the hill and turn off to go through Cheltenham. Got stuck behind a small queue of traffic which was held up by the front vehicle going 20mph from one side of Cheltenham to about 4 miles out the other side! So annoying.
Next thing was a longer queue behind a lorry. I knew there was a long, straight, stretch coming up and as I was getting ready to overtake the whole queue the Audi TT in front of me also pulled out so we both gunned it and got past everyone! I arrived at Brize at 22:55 so about 25 minutes later than intended.
Not to worry, the chap in the reception told me the flight had landed and the passengers were in the terminal.
Pre-Covid I used to be able to sign in and go to the terminal but since then all non-military personnel are not allowed to go to the terminal so Julia had to get a mini bus. Luckily she was with someone who was being met, at the terminal, and they gave her a lift with all of her baggage too, Phew!
Got home about 00:15.
