Proximity

If you’re obliged to live in close proximity
it stands to reason
that it’s best if you can all get on.
You could attempt anonymity

but someone will spot you even if you
keep a low profile and say little.
And if you do keep your mouth shut it’ll
probably backfire. More than a few

will assume you’re harbouring secrets
or that you think you’re too high
and mighty to mix with them. I’d
say there’s no easy answer. All bets

are off as to how long you’ll last.
You’ll need to put on a convincing act,
and that’s a fact, or seek a pact
with whoever rules the roost

that those on all sides will promise
(I do wonder what you’ll say to this)
to live and let live.
I have no other advice to give.
