Sweet Angel: Hummingbird on Mexican Sunflower
The stand of Mexican sunflowers (Tithonia) in a sunny spot in the yard is a magnet for hummingbirds in the late afternoon. I grabbed a chair and set up shop by the flowers, and nabbed a couple of shots of our little yard angels.
We know that they are packing on the ounces, getting ready to make their long migration journey south. They are eating up a storm, and so nectar sources like this are important to them. Fuel up, little one, so you are ready to fly strong!
My husband talks to the birds in our yard, and he tells them when he sees them: "We love you, little birds." We wonder if, during the time we are separated, during those long, long months when it is winter here: little bird, will you dream of these flowers? will you dream of this yard? will you dream of HOME?
My soundtrack song . . . I wanted something with angels in it. I couldn't decide between these two, so here they both are: Bonnie Raitt and Brandi Carlile, with Angel from Montgomery; and a rock opera version of Amy Grant, with Angels.
