Back Home
Now home from Lisbon. The journey was quite good; we had time for a leisurely breakfast before heading off to the airport, which isn't far from the centre of the city. On arrival at the underground station I had a frustrating time trying on three separate machines to load a single ticket onto our travel pass but it would only give me the option to buy a more expensive full day pass. After a while I realised the reason was that the full day pass I'd bought yesterday ran for 24 hours and not just till midnight, so still had an hour to go. A good flight to Amsterdam and then a half hour delay to Norwich, but not a problem as the flight itself is only about 35 minutes. After car parking experiences at large airports I have to say it is lovely to walk out of the terminal, cross the road and walk about 50 metres before getting into the car to drive home!
We thoroughly enjoyed Lisbon and I could definitely recommend the hotel we used, the 1908 Lisboa Hotel, recently built inside an old building which had been out of use for many years. It is in what is referred to as an 'up and coming area' which means that a lot of it has not yet 'upped and come'd'. We took a back street walk back to the hotel yesterday afternoon and it felt as though we had been transported to downtown Lahore; however, we never felt in the slightest bit uncomfortable and were perfectly happy wandering around in the evening. My shot is of the front of the hotel taken this morning as we left and if you do happen to look at the hotel website, three of the shots that scroll on the front page are of the room we had (not the one in the curve at the front of the hotel). The hotel isn't actually leaning to one side, but when I straightened the shot it lopped off the very top of the hotel so I left it as it was.
