Petrocosmea chiwui

Petrocosmea is a genus in Gesneriaceae, so related to African Violets and Sterptocarpus, among many others.  The majority of the species come from China where they often grow in shady, rocky places, the Chinese name translates as Stone Butterfly.   In cultivation they need to be grown in a very free draining medium, watered sparely and kept out of the sun.  This plant is in pure sand and kept on a low shelf in the porch where there are lots of plants above.

A second day off and a second long trip.   Jamie and I headed for Ysbyty Gwynedd up in Bangor, where he collected a new set of lower leg splints.  These will help support his ankles so he can stand occasionally although he needs to support himself using stick or frame.   A lovely day for a drive through the beautiful  Welsh countryside, almost a four hour round trip.  I needed to stop for a snooze break on the way back.

Home again to a little more work on the bulbs, food, a walk for Meg and a short visit to pottery to glaze a couple of Erica's pieces.   Work again tomorrow.
