damselfly
While I was in Dumfries this morning, I decided to cycle to Ladypark, a SWT reserve which is right in the middle of the town, but hidden away so that many people are unaware of its existence. The land is the remains of the Black Loch, which was partially drained 200 years ago for agricultural purposes. Now it is to be surrounded by hundreds of new houses.
At the reserve, a friend of mine was meeting with a man from SWT to measure water levels, and they explained how SWT were working with the developers to ensure the protection of wildlife in the area, and keeping the water at an optimum level so that the peat doesn't dry out.
I was entranced by all the blue damselflies. Very difficult to focus before they fly away!
