Seeing red

Went to the Adelaide Central Market this evening, and as part of my routine swung past my usual Asian grocer, only to find that its not only closed, but bordered up, gutted behind the roller door. I’ve been going there for at least 20 years. No sign of imminent doom last time I went in. However, who knows what precarious conditions they would have been under, especially since the pandemic, as we ourselves know firsthand. The whole area around the grocery store has been closed for a large redevelopment, so I guess that suggests that someone is prepared to invest in aging Chinatown infrastructure. Still, it made me sad.
