Choir to the rescue!

Today, the Northleach choir found itself singing at a wedding in St Mary's, Elmley Castle in Worcestershire.  Our choir master had an email on Monday from the couple who found themselves (due to administative errors) without a choir for their marriage today.  The bridegroom lived in Northleach when he was young and so immediately thought of ringing us in the hope that, at such short notice, we'd be able to go and sing.  We were!  It was a lovely service and we were pleased to be able to help them out.  A brief history of the church below:

'St Mary’s dates back to Norman times, and there is evidence of pre 1100 herringbone masonry in the chancel. There is much work from later periods and the church was restored twice in the 19th century. The north transept houses two fine 17th century monuments, one to William Savage and the other to Thomas, first Earl of Coventry.  A Grade I listed building it features in Simon Jenkins’ 1000 Best English Churches and Betjeman’s Best British Churches (2011).'

In extras are photos of the alabaster memorial to the Savage family which I thought was very touching with their children kneeling at the foot of the monument, and a description of the family provided by the church.
