An Osprey Nest

We did a little boat tour this morning on the Cape Fear River. This is our second time but it’s a fun way to start a Saturday. The tour takes about two hours and starts in Wilmington and works its way north to some less busy areas and then back again. Lots of history dating back to Revolutionary era. The owner is very knowledgeable, used to be a River Keeper, history buff about these parts.

The ospreys have left their nests and will return in the spring. The dead trees (ghost trees) are because the salt water has encroached far up the river because of dredging to make the river deeper for shipping purposes. These were once fresh water Cypress trees.
