Niddry Castle West Lothian
Niddy Castle was built around the 15th century by Lord Seton - a supporter of Mary, Queen of Scots - who fled here on the 2nd May 1568 when she escaped from Loch Leven Castle in Fife. She left Niddry Castle to ask for sanctuary in England from her cousin, Elizabeth the First, -who imprisoned her and years later had her beheaded.
1680 the castle came into the Hope family - the Marquess of Linlithgow and was part of the Hopetoun Estate.
In the 1990's it was restored by Peter Wright and is now a private residence. This A listed fortified tower has as its neighbour a huge red shale bing.
