Sanglier Sunday
For those of veggie disposition look away now...
...I went for a walk round the lanes and quickly happened upon a group of hunters who were enjoying their post hunting lunch. The wild boar were strung up outside and in the cottage they were tucking into the roast sanglier. I tried a piece and very tasty it was too.
I discussed with them the ethics of hunting and they explained that the wild boar (sangliers) invaded the fields and ate the corn and sun flowers, They particularly like the sunflowers. if they aren't controlled then they will multiply. So what do you do?
And seeing this group sitting round a big table eating and having a glass of wine together is a striking reminder of the glue that binds together a rural community.
They were happy to be photographed and feel no shame in what they are doing. It's part of rural France.
