Yesterday I had seen biblinros’s birthday blip had mentioned Kirkcudbright’s Fringe Festival. I checked the programme for today and it listed a talk with Will Hutton this afternoon https://kbtfringe.co.uk/event/change-is-coming-to-the-uk-the-rise-of-the-we-society/  so I decided to head over as it looked like the weather was a lot better that way as well. I also thought it would give me a reason to have a swim with P and maybe call in on A&H in Gatehouse.

In the end the talk was a bit later than scheduled so I just went for the swim and catch up with P. He’d have loved to have gone to the talk and I’m sure we’d have had much to mull over afterwards. As I swam, it was quite breezy and wavy but then there was a strange agitation in the water. I thought it was a random squall but it was actually fish shoals. The gulls were getting stuck in and some of these tiny fish ended up beached as the tide receded. I wondered if they were smelt, or whitebait …https://www.livingseasnw.org.uk/conservation/marine-protected-areas/marine-conservation-zones/solway-firth   … it was too breezy to be able to tell if they smelled of cucumbers or not.
I made a brew and watched the late afternoon sun going down, too early for my liking, before heading home.
