Harvard
Since I'm returning on an evening flight, I had most of the day to enjoy myself. So, I left my bags at the hotel and took the subway to Harvard Square. After taking its Turf zone, I wandered the campus (see extra). It captures something of old European universities, but lacks the authenticity of "the real thing". I ate a tasty brunch, and walked back into Boston beside the wide and attractive Charles River (see extra).
Having seen two of the series of three games between the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox - last night's game was very much more entertaining than Friday's - I decided to watch the final game in order to experience a day game. Being a Sunday afternoon, it was unsurprising that there were more families, with most people not really following the game, but treating it as an appealing opportunity to spend time together. For example, I took a photo of a family group of 19, when I saw someone struggling to take it as a selfie! However, being surrounded by endless inane chatter and restless, bored children made it harder to enjoy the game.
The game itself demonstrated the slightly random nature of baseball, where a couple of significant hits can transform the game. Going into the last of 9 innings, the game was tied 2-2, when Chicago scored five in 3-4 plays. This left Boston needing to repeat this unlikely feat to continue the game: they didn't. I did at least experience a rare win for the White Sox, in the worst season that a team has had in about 100 years.
After the game, I took the familiar walk back across the Charles River to the hotel, and then travelled the airport with rather greater ease than when I arrived!
