It was another day with thick fog which was slow to clear in the morning with rain later but tomorrow we might be lucky to see the sun at last. When I walked to the local farm for eggs I watched several swallows swooping at speed around the barns and fields with some twittering on the telegraph wires and wondered if they were planning to migrate very soon to Africa where they would be assured of a good supply of insects in the better weather. Near home I managed to collect a bagful of brambles before they were getting too damp to pick in the rain. Then at home discovered this ?pigeon’s feather on the grass with the water drops magnifying the structure of the feather.
