Negative Space

My bookcases are missing one thing, space. There is only one shelf really empty. So I have a lot of positive space.
However, focusing on just this single shelf, it appears, the negative space.

FYI: I don't buy books anymore, normally. Most books I have are in my possession since before the internet.
