The Whole Range
After the fog lifted it was another sparkling morning. I couldn't resist going back to the quarry for another look. This time I blipped the whole Torlesse range, which required a slightly different angle from yesterday's blip. As you can see, the range has four main peaks. From left, Castle Hill Peak (actually the highest), Rubicon Peak (aka Mount Torlesse), the brilliantly named Back Peak, and Otarama Peak.
From out east on the Canterbury Plains, when you can see a long expanse of the Southern Alps, the outstanding feature that distinguishes the Torlesse Range is The Gap, but this is not so easily seen when the mountains have a heavy mantle of snow.
Many local people call the range the Sleeping Beauty, because they see in it the outline of a reclining woman. However, I have noticed that it depends on where they live as to whether they see her feet at the south end or the north end. This is also better seen when there is no snow.
Thank you everyone who commented on my blip yesterday. It means a lot to me.
