Tradescantia
This picture is misleading, The Tradescantia has small narrow leaves, this in a garden along the road from here. Named by Carl Linnaeus in the 16th century in honour of John Tradescant (Elder and his Son the Younger) Both botanists and gardeners and plant collectors for royalty and nobility. Many gardens attributed to them including Robert Cecil's property at Hatfield House and Cranborne Manor.
