Finger Lakes
Back in the 1880s the Bundy brothers collaborated to invent and manufacture time clocks so that workers could clock in and out of their workplace.
This happened in Auburn, in Upstate New York (Cayuga County, for those with an eye for detail). It is in the Finger Lakes area, which I associate with wine production rather than manufacturing.
Perhaps that reveals something. Anyway, I digress.
At one stage the Bundys' company became part of IBM, no less. Bundy clocks are still sold today.
Quite how a Bundy clock made its way from Auburn, NY to an outside wall in Saint Clair Street, Kirkcaldy is not obviously apparent. I stumbled upon it this morning (not literally) and now I am intrigued.
