Posh ice cream

We are dog sitting again. I was walking the guest dog up by the Kings Buildings and saw this. Apparently the only Rolls-Royce ce cream van in the world. Luca’s ice-cream had always been favoured by us as amongst the best. It was always an attraction at North Berwick or, on the way home, Musselburgh.

The vehicle was built for the Marquis de San Miguel of Spain in 1923. Then owned by Viscount Scarsdale and other owners until 1937 when it was bought by Mr S Luca who converted it into an ice-cream van.

It used to be a regular sight at the outdoors swimming pool at North Berwick. I do not recall it but was probably more interested in the ice cream. It now tours food shows etc. The engine, gear box and chassis are original, according to the note pinned to a window from which I got this info.

I assume it was parked there for some freshers event at the university. Sadly it had finished selling ice- cream for the day.
