On Some Days

Quiet Town . . . The Killers

Wide Wednesday . . . My Town

There isn't much to Richmond.  It has a big shopping mall, a long main street, large carpark outside the mall, a small public gardens.  I thought Sundial Square with its water feature is the most attractive view.  It was settled by Europeans in 1842 and named after Richmond on Thames, England.  The Maori name for this area is Waimea.
The men walking across in the background are from the Pacific Islands.  One was wearing a lavalava but he is obscured.  Groups of workers come here and work in the orchards, vineyards and vegetable growing areas.  The wages they earn are sent back home and they meet our labour shortage.
Thanks Bob for keeping it wide on Wednesdays.
