Pavilion
At 5 pm, I left for the journey to Portsmouth. If possible, I wanted to on the FastCat at 7:20 pm. That gets me to Ryde at a reasonable hour. On days like today, I have two choices: I could use the more expensive route via Waterloo or hop via Guildford. I opted for the second two-train option. Unfortunately for me, the first train left Raynes Park three minutes late and was thirteen minutes behind schedule arriving in Guildford. That meant I'd missed my five-minute connection and had to wait half an hour for a Portsmouth-bound train. The new train, of course, missed the ferry, and I was an hour late to Ryde.
At the end of the day, I made my Delay Repay claim. I do not book through to Ryde as I have a cheaper carnet for the boat, so I could only claim for the 29-minute delay into Portsmouth Harbour. I suspect I will get about £5 back for that, which is better than nothing, but doesn't reflect the actual consequences of the delay.
A few weeks ago, I posted a picture of Eastern Gardens, commenting that it was a shame that the image "doesn't show the pavilion". I remembered writing that as I walked past tonight. I stopped to take a picture. I think the lighting looks good, but I don't think it shows off the pavilion in full glory.
