Day 16: Older houses of Grafton

After watching the Harris v Trump debate this morning we enjoyed strolling through some of the older areas of Grafton to see the early Grafton style. They are ornate and I find them very appealing.

The third photo was the home of Frederick William Conrad Schaeffer, who designed and built it himself. He was born in Grafton to German parents in 1858. As a young man he was sent to Germany to complete an architecture degree and returned to Grafton to marry in 1881. He built many buildings in the early part of the 20th century and was officially Grafton's 'architect of the city' between 1909 and about 1915. Even today, at least 10 of his buildings are still standing.
