Beningbrough Hall for the utterly incredible exhibition of a remarkable woman’s work. The Botanical world of Mary Delaney, the most exquisite botanical art, was created using layers of water-colour painted paper, cut, assembled and glued to give exemplars of botanical treasures. Mary Delaney began her work at the age of 72 and eventually gave up due to failing eyesight when in her 80s. She created more than 900 images which are far too delicate to exhibit, so the British Museum has photographed them in great detail and enlarged them x4 for display.
Mary Delaney died in 1788, whilst living grace and favour in Windsor Castle, leaving behind her “paper mosaiks”.
