The New Resident

This is a brush turkey, and seems to have taken up residence.
They are a protected species, being endemic to Australia, and this is a male, having a darker yellow wattle than the female.

I'm not thrilled about its arrival, as they build mounds to entice the females to lay eggs, which are incubated in the heat generated by the leaf much.
They are notoriously difficult to deter, though I'm hoping Billy might give it a big fright, enough for it to relocate.
I'm hoping Billy will not eat it!

Apparently they are very delicious, were eaten by aborigines and considered a treat by early colonists.
The eggs were a particular delicacy.

This is the first I have seen in Blackheath in the 43 years we've lived here.
