Ickworth

An 'Italianate palace' with five centuries of history, set in a country estate in Suffolk. It was completely free today as part of English Heritage open days. We had a lovely 9km walk around the estate and then after a picnic, enjoyed the house and gardens. The 'downstairs' was particularly well done and really interesting - with lots of authentic documents (such as menu plans, to-do lists and ledgers) as well as artefacts, photos and quotes. The gardens were also interesting with quirky touches! A really gd day and although chilly, the sun stayed out and rain held off.
