Rain Showers

It was quite cool today, with showers on and off and clouds. I puttered around this morning, getting caught up with desk stuff. In the early afternoon I went to a local nursery to see if they had lettuce starts...which they did. In fact, the guy told me that they'd just arrived yesterday! I'll get those planted tomorrow, and plant a bunch of seeds as well. All of this cool weather will be the demise of the heat-loving veggies so will likely pull those out soon and concentrate on the fall veggies. Often I have lettuce through the summer, but it's just been too hot. I bought a few pansies and violas although I don't really have a plan for them.

My friend Renee is coming to visit this weekend. I used to work with her at the art college...eons ago now. But we've remained friends even though she and her husband moved to California. She's in the area visiting various friends and will be here in time for dinner tomorrow night. She's an avid plant person, although now growing N. California plants! I'm looking forward to her visit.

I love the blue bits (I guess they're stamens actually!) in the center of this hydrangea...purchased from Trader Joe's. I should really be on the lookout for a similar hydrangea to grow on the shady side of my house...I really love this color combination!
