‘Rebirth of a Lost Art’
I had to take the car across town first thing this morning to get its leaking radiator fixed. It was a beautiful morning, and everyone seemed to be in a good mood. On my jog back home, I saw these very chatty guys laying setts at a roundabout in the New Town, which is being remodelled.
When I first arrived in Edinburgh in the early 1950s, all the streets were laid like this; going by the time and attention these guys were giving to each stone, I can’t imagine quite how!
Nowadays, setts are mainly ornamental and are often used to deter drivers from going over them!
