An old coat of arms

Today I was in Molesey, across the river from Hampton Court and saw this coat of Arms with an accompanying explanation. This is in the location of the old bridge which originally had a toll to cross and connected with Bridge Street. The coat of arms belongs to Thomas Alllen who built the bridge which was opened in 1866, and he collected the tolls and lived on the Middlesex side. In 1876 the bridge was bought by the Metropolitan Board of Works and the toll was lifted and that was much appreciated by the locals.
A new wider bridge- the present one -  was opened in 1933 with a road which bypasses the little shopping street.

Such a sunny day compared to yesterday but I was inside from 10.30- 16.30 doing a quilting course in the little quilt shop near the bridge. I did need a break at lunchtime as I have not had to sit and concentrate for so long in ages! All using a sewing machine and nearly finished so maybe fit for a blip in the next couple of days.
So many cafes there and all seemed very busy today both inside and people sitting at outside tables too.
