Kanonenbahn

History of a railway line that was built at the insistence of the Prussian army staff between Berlin and the fortified city of Metz. Construction began in the 1870s. The railway line ran from Berlin via Nordhausen, Wetzlar, Limburg/Lahn, Koblenz, Trier to Metz. In total more than 800 kilometres, right through Germany, often bypassing major cities. It was about military importance; civil considerations did not count. However, the line did not play a major military role. Large parts of the line were eventually shut down, while other parts - such as the Moselstrecke - have since acquired an important role in the railway business. It is popularly known as the Kanonenbahn - Cannons railway.

To take the photo I had to climb the opposite mountain and just against the edge of the forest I had this view at a distance of more than 1 km..
