Knitting stick

Or knitting sheath, if you prefer. It's an alternative to a knitting belt, as used in Shetland, which supports the end of your right needle, leaving you free to knit more fluidly. They were used in the past, but are usually only seen in museums these days.  (Although I do know a certain blipper who has one!)

This is a particularly beautiful one, a work of art. It is in the Weardale Museum which we visited today. Mike rode his electric bike there, and Lottie and I walked. A good arrangement which we works well. . Such a treasure trove of fascinating items and quite a few which brought back happy memories of being in my Granny's kitchen with her.

We had a nice walk along side the river earlier in the day.  Lots of rose hips and rowan berries and a small deer in the distance, grazing at the edge of a field of sheep. This is a beautiful place. I have my aunt N to thank for introducing me to it.
