The Sunny Side

Sight

What feels like a simple moment of grandpa playing with my nephew is actually so much more than that. My father-in-law has been blind for many years, with any sense of shadows and light progressively getting worse. While he doesn't speak too much about his depression, I know that this is all very hard for him. But when he is with his grandchildren, there is a notable change in his energy. He is full of laughter and playfulness. Here he is, drawing with Aaru. He admitted that he couldn't see what he was drawing, but through memory, he drew a face, a squirrel, and a woman in a dress. Aaru is by far the light of his life.

We took the kids to the zoo and playground this morning, then in the evening, grandparents watched both of the children and both of the dogs so that we parents could enjoy a rare double date. Soda Works has excellent cocktails that did not disappoint!

Side note: Just our luck. Mimi woke up with a runny nose this morning. Just 3 days before our vacation. I hope she recovers quickly!
