The Useless Window
Coogee bus services were disrupted due to the marathon, so we caught a ferry to Cockatoo Island instead. I’d been here once before, years ago, before it opened to the public. Formerly convict barracks, a girls’ industrial school, a boys’ training ship, a shipbuilding yard and the RAN’s South Pacific ship repair facility from 1913 until it closed in the 1990s. Now historic holiday cottages, glamping sites with campfires and cinema screenings, cafés, bars and venues for huge creative events.
The bricked-in window is an early example of Muyō mado, a hyperart Thomasson type #4.
Hope you’re having an enjoyable Sunday.
