We walked into Newlyn today. I read up a bit about the place before setting off. Apparently, it’s the home of the largest fishing port in England and also the home of the Newlyn School, an art movement that settled there favouring “En Plein Air”. One online reviewer said the best thing about Newlyn was that it was near some really nice places, such as Penzance and Mousehole. Hardly a ringing endorsement. Whilst there we sampled a Cornish Pasty from the oldest pasty maker in the world and I learned a new word, “Coddywomple”; to travel purposefully towards an vague destination. I think we’ve spent most of our lives coddywompling.
