Marienburg

The location of the Marienburg is truly unique, as it is located high up on the mountain ridge, a peninsula surrounded by the Moselle, on a narrow ridge where the Moselle loop of the Zeller Hamm narrows to less than 300 m.

From here you have a fantastic view of the magical wine towns of the Zeller Land (Alf, Neef, Bullay, Zell-Merl, Briedel, Pünderich, St. Aldegund) and the impressive, almost 14 km long Moselle loop. Due to this picturesque location, the Marienburg is a place where you can experience the scenic beauty of the Moselle region in a particularly lasting way.

Where the Marienburg stands today, there was already a castle more than 1000 years ago. In 1146 an Augustinian monastery was founded on the same spot. In 1515 this monastery was dissolved and a fortification was built in its place, which was destroyed by French auxiliary troops in 1650.
