Art Walk

Second weekend and more Art Houses to see and photograph. Here I am in the Ramp House, reflected in one of the lights in the kitchen area. Another great day with lots of interesting conversations with artists. In the evening L and I headed up town to the cinema to celebrate our wedding anniversary - can't believe it is 28 years now. We went to see "Lee" - about Lee Miller the model, muse and photographer.
<Spoiler Alert>
The film focussed (oops!) on Lee's experiences as a photographer in the Second World War but we weren't very impressed. The framing device for the narrative was cliched and logically inconsistent. Despite feeling like a dramatised wikipedia entry I thought repeatedly that it could have been better as a straight documentary. And despite the facts - and a sense that being completely accurate was more important than using any little bits of dramatic license that might have improved the film's narrative - I came out not really understanding Lee. I did want to find out much more about Audrey Withers, wartime editor of British Vogue. A film around her and wartime Vogue, including Lee Miller's work, might have been a more interesting structure.

And one more thing. In the bath photo, which I was waiting for for much of the film, why move the mixer one tile up when you have faithfully recreated all the other details in the iconic picture?
