Final Flights

After lunch and a quick mooch around my favourite arts and crafts store (the wallet stayed firmly closed ... at least for now) I stopped off at Heather Farm Wetlands for a  walk.

I didn't get very far.

The main  "Wetlands Reserve" part is a fairly small cordoned off lake and surrounding meadow, marshland and woodland area. To my surprise and delight a few dragonflies and damselflies were still flying over a small reed-filled pond, resting to take in the warm afternoon sun, though apparently the common darter in my main image can be seen on the wing right up until December and the migrant hawker in extras can be found up until November. So perhaps these are not their final flights!
