La Chiesa Madonna degli Alpini, Boario

Popped into the church opposite our hotel this morning - the Madonna of the Alps. It’s a modern church (1957) with a great history and lovely art, architecture and iconography. There are four wooden doors at the entrance, representing the four cardinal virtues: PRUDENCE, TEMPERANCE, FORTITUDE, and JUSTICE. Cardinal means ‘hinge’ so the idea is that these virtues act as hinges that help us open the door to the pathway to heaven. Together with the three theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity they form the seven heavenly virtues.
