Glasswort

We walked at Holkham this morning, both in the extensive parkland of Holkham Hall and on the beach which with the tide out, was a huge expanse of sand (see extra). The beach is bordered by sand dunes and behind them is a salt marsh. These little pink coloured glasswort plants covered much of the area and are one of only a few plants which can survive the salt, and frequent drying and wetting as the sea comes in and out of the salt marsh.

We had a lazy afternoon reading and cooking soup for lunches later this week, and a chilli for this evening’s dinner.
