Signs of encroaching winter

In the form of something close to a balcony sunrise. Signs of lingering summer in the extra, in the form of sun worshippers in Old College Quad during the extraordinary 20+ degree heat at lunchtime and in the afternoon. I snapped that as I came back from lunch with TJO. The way you can tell it's mid September is to look at the shadows. Not that much of the grass would be in shadow in June and July at 1.45pm. But then equally, there are generally fewer students around to enjoy the sun in June and July, except for graduation days.

It stayed balmy all day, including through to the evening when I went to enjoy dinner at Canopy Cafe at EFI with my Head of School colleagues, saying goodbye to a couple of colleagues who have stepped down (but are not moving on) and hello to a couple of new colleagues.

It's perhaps not the perfect birthday celebration, but it was ok in the circumstances.
