Sunshine on my Shoulders
Today dawned warm, a fitful night had seem me witness every hour on the clock to the extent that I got up early decided to head to one of my favourite places to walk. I was parked before sun up and the grass in the fields was heavy with morning dew, a haar hanging over the loch like a soft white blanket, it swirled around the trees truncating the middle of the trunks creating an eerie landscape, a little eerie in the silence of the dawn.
The ducks and moorhens dappled the loch with ripples as they paddled serenely in the shallows undisturbed by my presence. As last night I shot the end of days so this morning I hoped to capture that new beginning that gives me that hope that today will be a better day. As I walked the sun slowly began to crest the hills, the haar swirled and drifted like dry ice changing the light and landscape by the second as the heat seemed to slowly increase. This was the first shot of the sunrise I shot the morning, I thought when I saw it that it was special, I love the pastel colours the full spectrum on display muted by the haar which provided a softness almost like a watercolour. I had hoped for a bright golden globe of a sunrise, these shots I got too but this was the one for me, a little different.. Shot for my friend, the imagery again representing the hope that things are a little better everyday on our healing road.
As I rounded the head of the loch the sun had crested the hills and was at my back, her warmth comforting on my back and so it was that a lyric came to me. Sunshine on my Shoulders was written by John Denver, branded a country artist but really a storyteller, stories of nature, love and places always evocative when read or sung. This lyric to me is one about the love for friends, about sharing the simple things with those we hold close to our hearts.
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high
If I had a day that I could give you
I'd give to you a day just like today
If I had a song that I could sing for you
I'd sing a song to make you feel this way
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high
If I had a tale that I could tell you
I'd tell a tale sure to make you smile
If I had a wish that I could wish for you
I'd make a wish for sunshine all the while
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high
Sunshine almost all the time makes me high
Sunshine almost always
I hope you enjoy the shot, I loved the muted colours, the boats, the ducks the reflections and the eerie texture, it is best in large,it is another shot I am very proud of....
