Backblip Hill House

On Saturday we had an outing to Helensburgh to The Hill House, which features the architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, with my niece and her husband.  We had been there before several years ago but hadn't seen it in its wrapping to protect it from the elements. The box around the house is made from 165 tonnes of steel and the chainmail mesh that covers it is made up of 32.4 million rings. The exciting part of it is that you can walk right over the roof of the house and look down on it...a drone's eye view. It was wet and windy but we still did this being careful of our footing on the wet steps. What an interesting view of the property. It's always great to see the work of CRM but the house is dark anyway and the mesh does make it slightly darker. After the brightness of Cragside a few days previous we found ourselves wishing there were a few more lamps! There is a lovely cafe there and we enjoyed out morning coffee and a Tunnocks tea cake!
In the evening we had a lovely meal out with the whole family. It was a really great visit.
